A French economist, his studies focus on issues relating to income and wealth inequality. He is a Professor at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) and the École d'économie de Paris. He pioneered the method for measuring inequality using statistics on fiscal income, indicating income shares for different quintiles of the population. Piketty is the author of the international bestseller Capital in the Twenty-First Century, published in Italian in 2018 by Bompiani, which explores the issues dealt with in his studies on the concentration and distribution of wealth in the last 250 years. In 2020 he wrote the book Capital and Ideology, the Italian translation being published by La Nave di Teseo (2020).
